Coming up this week

This week (week 12; last week of lectures at the UoA) we have two guest academics from the Faculty of Science: On Monday (5-6:30 pm, Case Room 4, Owen G. Glenn building) Dr. Wayne Stewart from the Statistics Dept is joining us to talk about Bayesian methods. If you’ve had him as a lecturer before but forgotten his name, he’s the guy with the puppet.

On Thursday Professor Howard Carmichael from the Physics Dept is joining us to answer your questions about quantum physics. The meeting will be at 4-5 pm, OGGB5, Owen G. Glenn building; note that this will be our last regular meeting at this time and place. I’ve heard that he’s a cool speaker, so come along and ask him anything you don’t understand about quantum theory. Which should be everyone, according to Richard Feynman:

“I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics.” – The Character of Physical Law (1965)
