About RSS

A group of people with an interest in science, philosophy, and/or academic inquiry. We are concerned with critical assessment of the reasoning and evidence (if applicable) behind claims and beliefs. We encourage free thought and inquiry into any matters, including controversial and taboo topics. We are about promoting how to decide what’s true, not what to believe. We welcome people from all perspectives and disciplines.

Our geographical focus is Auckland. Most of our members are from the University of Auckland (though this is certainly not a requirement) and we are an AUSA affiliated club.

Our activities range from informal social gatherings to more formal academic events. See our events list for our upcoming and past events: https://www.facebook.com/groups/347284987747/events/

2013 Semester 2 meetings are typically held in CaseRoom1 (aka 260-005) Owen Glen Building, Business School on the University of Auckland campus. Though some may be held at other times or locations as needed. Keep up to date on the events page.

Meetings are based around a group discussion, and usually begin with listening to a talk by a guest academic or RSS member, or watching a short video before the discussion. Other activities include online communication, social events and occasional public lectures/screenings/discussions. To this we would like to add original research, interviews and podcasting, more interaction with other clubs and the public. We need people to take part and help grow the group through promotion, funding efforts, organizing events and much more!
