2014 Discussion Dinner

Well, O-week is behind us and we’ve had our first event of the year. The discussion dinner was a great success, with around 30 people, both old members and new, turning up for an evening of lively discussion and of course some food. Hats off to the organisers, whose preparation made the evening run so smoothly.

Three topics were put forward for discussion, and provided a springboard for related (or unrelated) topics. As it turned out, we only really heard back from the groups on the first topic on the night, so if anybody would like to chime in with feedback or interesting tangents in the comments, or even continue with discussions cut short, they’re more than welcome to do so.

1)      Is it ethical for a socialised healthcare system to have compulsory organ donation?

2)      Should there be a right to secede?

3)      What, if anything, should the government censor?

Next week’s event will be “Cryptography and Information theory: things that are impossible and things that are not,” with Steven Galbraith, at 5:30 in Case Room 2 of the OGGB. Details of upcoming events are available on the Facebook page, or the calendar above.
